So you have your first meeting with your photographer coming up and zero idea on what to ask them. What do you do?! Don’t worry, because we went to our preferred vendor list and asked our photographer friends about the questions you need to ask your photographer!
Here is our list of questions to ask your photographer:
- What is your preferred style of photography?
- How many weddings have you shot in your career?
- How many weddings will you shoot on my wedding day? Will there be enough time between each wedding to accomplish quality photos?
- Have you had any photography gigs at my venue before? If so, are there any tips I should know before arriving? If not, can we go take a look before the wedding day?
- Do you bring your own lighting? (If not, then that’s a huge red flag!!)
- Do they work from a shot list? (If they do, then ask to see the shot list. If they do not, then ask if you can provide a detailed shot list for them.)
- How many hours are included in your package? (Usually, photographers will start a couple of hours before the wedding starts as there are optimal times during wedding prep to get great photos of the groomsmen, bridesmaids, family and children.)
- How much do additional hours cost if you haven’t captured exactly what you wanted or needed?
- Do you bring a second shooter with you? (Most photographers will 99% of the time have a second shooter for the ceremony because there are SO many vital moments and expressions that must be captured from different angles that will make or break the perfect ceremony photos.)
- How many images roughly will I expect from my wedding? (On average there are usually between 1200 and 1500 photos taken. However, brides usually see only 200 – 400 photos from their wedding.)
- Do you have a limit of how many photos will be edited? (The answer should always be “No”)
- How long will it take to see the proofs from my wedding?
- Do I have to order all prints through you or will I receive a disk/USB of images?
- How much do prints cost?
- Is an album included with your package? (If so, ask to see a previous album they’ve done.)
- Will you use any of my images for your advertising? (If they say yes, then get the photographer to ask you for permission first.)
- Will you request the photography guidelines from the ceremony and reception locations?
- What attire will you and your 2nd shooter be wearing?
- What is your backup plan if for some reason illness or emergency happens?
- How much is the deposit?
- When is the balance due?
- What is your cancellation policy?
